......*GOBSMACKED*........
You two are fantastic. Gold stars for completing your homework and posting it the day it was given out.
Regarding the second section: think about whether the groups described are being represented in a POSITIVE light or a NEGATIVE LIGHT. Would teenagers like to see themselves portrayed in a negative, stereotypical way? Probably not. Who WOULD like to see this portrayal? This will be the target audience.

P.S. I particularly enjoyed this bit, Jordan: "(c) teachers: Strict, intelligent , always go on about homework " I cannot think who that last bit could be describing.....

Media homework: Representation
This homework will help you to revise representation and how it relates to audience and purpose.
Task 1: Stereotypes
A stereotype is a generalised, simplified idea about a group of people e.g. all Scottish people are ginger and play the bagpipes.
Stereotypes are often used in representation as it is a quick way for the film makers to appeal to a certain audience. They can also be used to persuade the audience of a certain point of view, like Moore uses them.
Make a list of stereotypes of:
(a) teenagers: Loud, agressive, untidy and some could be geeky. ______________________________________
_________________________________________________
(b) elderly people: complain about noise,walk/drive really slowly, not very social people.___________________________________
_________________________________________________
(c) teachers: smart, strict, _______________________________________
_________________________________________________
Identify a character from a programme you watch who you consider a stereotype. Explain why you think this. Chris from skin's. He is a typicall teenager because he is very loud and likes to take drugs .
Task 2: representations and purpose
You are making a documentary about Queensferry High School. Your purpose is to persuade the viewers that they want to send their children to our school. Describe in some detail how you will represent the pupils of the school below.
Costume: School uniform with tie tied up and a blazer to show that their child will look as smart as these children when they go to our school._________________________________________
________________________________________________
Actions: Show children working hard so they know their child will learn something and show people smiling to show this is a friendly place where their children will make friends easily.__________________________________________
_________________________________________________
Dialogue: Smart english pupils and maybe even others that came from other countries to show this school has a wide variety of pupils __________________________________________
_________________________________________________
Describe one technical code (e.g. camera shot, lighting, music, sound, editing) that you will use in your documentary to create this representation of the pupils: Bright lighting and colourful colours to canote that this is a happy and cheery school.
_________________________________________________
Task 3: representations and audience
Read the following descriptions of representations. Identify the audience group that you think the programme would be aimed at.
(a) “The Buckfast Club” Teenagers are shown dressed in tracksuits, trainers and baseball caps, walking around a run-down housing estate in large gangs. They are shown shouting aggressively and swearing at passers-by.
Target audience: People that like to hang about in large groups, cause trouble and do not have alot of money.___________________________________
Reason for choice: People that walk about in clothes like tracksuits and baseball caps normally like to cause trouble and dont live in a very nice area. ___________________________________
_________________________________________________
“Pierced up” Teenagers are shown with body piercings, wearing a range of outfits, from jeans and t-shirts to leggings and Ugg boots. They speak intelligently and humorously about their piercings and reasons for having them. They are shown walking around their local areas, ranging from ordinary housing estates to more wealthy areas. They are also shown at home with their families and at school.
Target audience: Sophistocated people with piercings that like to spend time with friends talking about life and dont cause any trouble in their wealthy area.____________________________________
Reason for choice: To relate with each-other about piercings and talk to their friends.

In a previous post, I said:
Regarding the second section: think about whether the groups described are being represented in a POSITIVE light or a NEGATIVE LIGHT. Would teenagers like to see themselves portrayed in a negative, stereotypical way? Probably not. Who WOULD like to see this portrayal? This will be the target audience.
I realise now I actually meant the final section. I still don't think people are hitting the nail on the head when it comes to the target audience for the Buckfast Club. Who would LIKE to see yound people depicted this way? Young people themselves? If not, who would???
