This scene is important to the story as a whole. It is the first time John uses his powers to heal someone. After John heals Paul, Paul has a different look towards John. He was mesmerized by what he had just done. Us as the audience are even more speechless when the lights blow in the cell and things start flying out of John Coffeys mouth.
We see a shot of Paul lying on the floor which makes us as audience think Paul is fragile. There is then a diagetic sound of John Coffeys voice asking if he could speak to Paul. Considering we don't see John Coffey when he calls for Paul we think that Paul might Be n danger. We then get a close up of Pauls face which is in pain.
We then get a over the shoulder shot from behind John Coffey. The light in his cell is dim. The camera angle highlights Johns height against Pauls height. The lighting creates a eery, sinister atmosphere and once again makes us think that Paul may well be in danger.
When John grabs Paul the editing becomes very fast paced and suddenly we head the non diagetic sound that sounds like feedback. A shot of other prisoner Del makes us begin to panic when he begins to scream and shout for help.
The camera shifts focus to a pie angle shot from above the cell. This means we can see John grabbing Paul and in shot is a light bulb above their heads which begins to glow.
A high pitch buzzing noise attracts our attention. This is the first indication that John has a power. Paul and Del's facial expressions reveal that something unusual just happened. The light in the cell then becomes extremely bright and blows. As it does that a tracking zoom shot of Paul which lightens the sense of the supernatural
