1. Identify the target audience for this film in terms of age and gender. Briefly justify your choice.
*Teenagers, as it is a film about teenagers.*
*OK, Stewart. You need to EXPAND on this answer. Remember what we’ve said about SEGMENTING the audience into age and gender groups and JUSTIFYING your choices by saying what EXACTLY there is in the film that would appeal to them. Are all teenagers the same? Are there any teenagers that WOULDN’T like this film? Are there any other groups that WOULD like the film, but are not teenagers? What about fans of the stars? Other associated productions?*
2. Explain how cultural codes are used to appeal to the target audience in the trailer. Think about characters’ actions, dialogue, setting, use of colour.
Funny dialogue, set mainly in a school, lots of bright colours on mclovins fake ID
*Again, you need to be more specific and detailed in your answers. Take each cultural code, describe how it is used in the scene and then you must explain WHY this would appeal to the target audience.*
3. Explain how technical codes are used to appeal to the target audience in the trailer. Think about non-diegetic music, editing, camera shots and use of captions (writing on the screen).
the music used in the trailer may appeal to teenagers, they edited the main bits of the film into the trailer which makes it seem funny *See above*
4. What does the preferred reading of the two main characters (played by Seth Rogen and Michael Cera) and their actions seem to be? Why do you think this?
They seem to be like typical teenagers in america as they try really hard to fit in. *What do you mean by ‘typical’ teenagers? What is a typical teenager? Be more specific and justify what you say in detail.*
5. Name a group which might differentially decode the representation of the main characters and their actions. Explain what their reading would be.
Black teenagers. They would feel left out. *OK Great ! (I think you were off when we were discussing differential decoding as well, so I’m imperssed you’ve understood this .) Can you explain WHY they would feel left out? Can you think of anyone else that would disagree with the representation of the two main characters?*

1. Identify the target audience for this film in terms of age and gender. Briefly justify your choice. The target audience for superbad is male teenagers because it about partying and geting the right girl.
2. Explain how cultural codes are used to appeal to the target audience in the trailer. Think about characters’ actions, dialogue, setting, use of colour. Characters they are made to look geeky but they want to get a girl friend and go to lots of party and get drunk! Actions they are always moving aorund and the way they move make them look like geeks aswell and drinking untill they are sick. Dialogue is loud always expressing themselves, making their point heard. Mostly talkin about partys. Setting it is mostly set in partys but there are sets in a car outside the boys house, out side a club in school. This is done to try and make it look alot better and try and get you to make you watch the film. In the shop Use of colour it is always bold and bright colours used bacause it makes the film look intresting.
3. Explain how technical codes are used to appeal to the target audience in the trailer. Think about non-diegetic music, editing, camera shots and use of captions (writing on the screen). The non diegetic music makes the film sound funny because its sounds jazzy (sort of) Camera shots they have got mostly two or three people in them. When they see the guy has a fake ID card and say his name is mclovin there is a big close up of the guy. Then as mclovin hands his card over to the shop keeper there is a big close up of mclovin and the shop keeper. This makes us see the shop keepers facial epresions and see mclovins stupid facial expressions. Captions its telling u that its from makers of funny films and that its likely to be realy good because it has good actors in it and a good director.
4. What does the preferred reading of the two main characters (played by Seth Rogen and Michael Cera) and their actions seem to be? Why do you think this? They are ment to be a steryotypical teenager wantin to go to partys and get drunk all the time they want to be like the other guys and have more fun.
5. Name a group which might differentially decode the representation of the main characters and their actions. Explain what their reading would be. Jewish and afircan american becasuse they are mentioned in it but in a racial way (sort of)

Identify the target audience for this film in terms of age and gender. Briefly justify your choice.
Male teenagers because its about getting the right girl and its from a males point of veiw.
Explain how cultural codes are used to appeal to the target audience in the trailer. Think about characters’ actions, dialogue, setting, use of colour.
The actions are about getting drink underage which appeals to almost all teenagers cause they have tried to do it themselves. Setting of this film is occasionally in a school so that appeals to teenagers who go to school and anyone who is a fan of Michael Cera or Jonah Hill might go to see this film.
Explain how technical codes are used to appeal to the target audience in the trailer. Think about non-diegetic music, editing, camera shots and use of captions (writing on the screen).
Non-Diegetic sound will appeal to people who like rock-type music because its a rock song and there is fast editing to make the film a little funnier and interesting.
What does the preferred reading of the two main characters (played by Seth Rogen and Michael Cera) and their actions seem to be? Why do you think this?
The preferred reading of the two main characters suggest they are pretty geeky because they dont go out to parties alot and they try really hard to fit in with everyone because they went through all they did just to get drink for a party.
Name a group which might differentially decode the representation of the main characters and their actions. Explain what their reading would be.
Black people as they are not featured in this film alot.
