Summary of the text: 'A View form the Bridge' is a play that was written by Arthur Millar. The play is set in Red Hook, an area within Brooklyn. It is about two illegal immigrants, Marco and Rodolpho, who stay with their cousin, Beatrice along with her husband, Eddie, and her niece, Catherine. During the play we find that Eddie has inappropriate feelings for Catherine as he is sexually attracted to her - this fuels the theme of jealousy and leads up to the theme of betrayal. Eddie grows jealous of Rodolfo when Catherine begins to show more attention to Rodolpho than Eddie. Marco dislikes the fact that Eddie constantly tries to bring Rodolpho down. Eddie's hate for Rodolpho causes him to report Marco and Rodolpho as illegal immigrants and have them deported. This causes Marco to become furious with Eddie and demand a public apology which leads up to the dramatic final scene...
The Final Scene: Beatrice is ready to go to Catherine and Rodolpho's wedding but Eddie is not wanting Beatrice to go. Catherine is annoyed by this and it is shown by "Who the hell do you think you are?" Rodolpho then comes in and attempts to apologize to Eddie for causing problems but Eddie rejects the apology and demands one from Marco, just then Marco appears in the streets out side shouting Eddie's name. Eddie wants to go out to see Marco to 'get his name back', "I want my name! (hoisting up hit pants) Come on where is he? Take me to him" Beatrice attempts to convince Eddie not to go out to see Marco - "If he goes down on his knees, what has he got to give you? That's not what you want [...] don't bother me! [...] You want something else and you may never have her!" Regardless of Beatrice's efforts, Eddie still goes out to see Marco. They then have a fight on the street and Eddie brandishes a knife - "Eddie lunges with a knife and Marco grabs his and turns the blade, sending it homewards". Eddie then collapses after being stabbed and begins to say his last words to Catherine, realizing what he was doing he then looks at Beatrice, and says "Oh B. My B." That shows that he has realized the fact that he was treating Catherine more like his wife than Beatrice and that he is sorry for it.
