Some suggestions of words to describe tone
Compassionate/ considerate/ caring Dismissive Condescending/patronising Doubtful/questioning/cynical Flippant Regretful Confrontational Optimistic Appreciative Celebratory Bitter Angry Resentful Critical Cautionary Accusatory Depressing Pessimistic Mournful Lamentable Grieving
• Sarcastic Tone vs Ironic Tone Be careful – there is a difference between a sarcastic tone and an ironic tone.
Sarcasm: Harsh, cutting remarks intended to hurt or criticise, especially in an exaggerated way.
Irony : A mockingly humorous use of words in which the intended meaning is the opposite of what is actually said.
