Euthanasia Darren Scott
There are three main forms of euthanasia, which are; voluntary (when it is conducted with the patient’s consent); non-voluntary (when it is conducted when the patient is not able to give their consent) and involuntary (conducted against the patients own will). There is a massive world-wide argument about whether or not euthanasia should be legalised.
Some people believe that we should be able to choose when we want to die. Which makes sense because it is their life and we have our own will. Some people may wish to end their lives due to being terminally ill and to end their suffering.
On the other hand someone could recover against all odds, thus ending their suffering, but people could take it too far by assisting people with out their consent.
Most religions are completely against euthanasia they believe that the right to decide when a person dies belongs to their Gods. Like Christians, who believe in the sanctity of life, as well as being against the second commandment, which is not to kill. It has said “Jesus suffered on the cross – he didn’t cut short his suffering therefore not down to us to end our life”. Jewish people believe that “one must struggle until the last breath of life. Until the last moment, one has to live and rejoice and give thanks to the Creator...” (life is sacred). Hindu belief is “that euthanasia cannot be allowed because it breaches the teaching of ahimsa (doing no harm)”.
On the other side of religion, the bible states “Do unto others as you would have them do to you”; the patient might want their suffering to end by taking part in voluntary euthanasia. The patient’s family and friends would not have to see them suffering. Moving away from religion, some people think that it is wrong to keep people alive beyond their natural life span using life support machines. Everyone has human rights, which means that we all have the right to die when we want.
In 2002 The Independent said, “So long as the patient is lucid, and his or her intent is clear beyond doubt, there need be no further questions” while talking about euthanasia. The right to life includes the right to die, technically this statement should be true. A lot of people would get their pets put down if they were suffering which would be thought of as kindness. Yet the same cannot be said when humans are concerned.
Another argument is that euthanasia breaks a doctor’s oath of healing and causing no harm. In Oregon assisted suicide is legal but it pressures some citizens so much that they carry cards that say, “Do not euthanize me” just to remove some of the pressure.
In conclusion there are many arguments in favour of euthanasia and many against it is an on-going argument about its legalisation throughout the world. Many of the views are religious, medical or related to the law and government but there are also a lot of people who are completely undecided about the matter and those who do not really care for it.

Thanks, Darren. You have researched this topic and you have a lot of good ideas. I will give you a print out with detailed feedback in class, but here are some initial suggestions for next steps: 1. This only just makes the word count - can you make it a bit more detailed? 2. Look over your notes on essay structure and your plan. Remember we said that each paragraph should have: 1. An argument (topic sentence) 2. Detailed evidence from your research to back up your argument 3. At least ONE persuasive technique. You may need to revise our list and examples of persuasive techniques. Thank you for posting!

Euthanasia Darren Scott
There are three main forms of euthanasia, which are; voluntary (when it is conducted with the patient’s consent); non-voluntary (when it is conducted when the patient is not able to give their consent) and involuntary (conducted against the patients own will). No matter what form euthanasia takes it is completely wrong and should never be performed on anyone. There is a massive world-wide argument about whether or not euthanasia should be legalised.
Some people believe that we should be able to choose when we want to die but why, when we should just live our life to the point where it ends on its own. Some people may wish to end their lives due to being terminally ill and to end their suffering. Although consider the possibility that someone could recover from his or her illness against all odds, thus ending their suffering, but people could take it too far by assisting people with out their consent.
Even though I have no actual belief of religion there reasons I find there reasons are completely viable.
Another good and strong reason against it is that euthanasia breaks a doctor’s oath of healing and causing no harm. In Oregon assisted suicide is legal but it pressures some citizens so much that they carry cards that say, “Do not euthanize me” just to remove some of the pressure. How would you feel about having the possible use of euthanasia being constantly forced down on you to the point where your only course of action is to carry something that says otherwise?
The thing about euthanasia that bothers me the most is it creates monsters such as Dr. Jack Kevorkian otherwise known as Dr. Death. This man has assisted in the suicides of 130 people yet people see him as some kind of hero, more like a villain. Although he is not the worst as he was eventually convicted of murder. The worst of these kinds of people is Ludwig Minelli who has assisted over one thousand people to die, he has gone without conviction due to where he performs the acts
In conclusion there are arguments in favour of euthanasia they are irrelevant and all that are against it are in every way correct about the fact that legalisation should never happen anywhere in the world. Many of the views are religious, medical or related to the law and government but there are also a lot of people who are somehow completely undecided about the matter and those who do not really care for it, should.
