Choose a play in which one of the main themes is betrayal. show how the theme of betrayal is explored throughout the play.
in the play "A view form the birdge" by Arthur miller, the theme of betrayal runs througout. the play is set in the red hook district of brooklyn, an area well known for its italian imigrant communitys. the play is about how Eddie, a longshoreman, his wife beatrice and his neice cathrine, take in 2 italian illegal imigrants who are beatrice cousins. after one of the immagrants, Rodolfo and Eddies neice cathrine fall in love, Eddies possesive love cathrine shows through. Eddie, in his desparation to stop Rodolfo and Cathrine from being together, commits what is seen to be a horrendouse crime in the italian comunity. He reports the imagrents to the authorities. He is then shunned by his comunity and his life comes comes to a violent end when he is stabed by one of the immagrants, Marco. the writer uses multiple techniques such as dialogue,characterisation, key scenes and forshadowing to put forth the idea of betrayal.
Eddie has an unhealthy relationship with cathrine as he is obssesed with her. although Eddie is cathrines uncle he has a sexual attraction to cathrine however he doesnt like any one else looking at her but him.when cathrine falls in love with Rodolfo, Eddie sees this as a betrayal "he's stealling from me!". one key scene were this is shown is the scene were comes home to see Rodolfo and Cathrine leaving the bedroom. "cathrine enters from the bedroom, under his gaze she adjusts her dress". Eddie goes into a fit of jelousy and kisses Cathrine on the mouth. the writer also uses dialoge to show that he sees Cathrines love for rodolfo as a betrayal. when eddie and Cathrine are talking outside "i dont know, you're running, you're running, Katie. i dont think you listening anymore to me."
Becouse of Eddies sexual attraction to cathrine, in away, this could be seen as a betrayal to beatrice. Beatice feels
