Homework for Monday 17th December

Hi folks

Your final homework before the Christmas holidays. You will be writing a mini essay (1-2 paragraphs) about John Proctor's character EITHER in Act 1 or Act 2.

Success criteria:
- use the PEE structure
- introduce your quotes properly
- show understanding of John's character through your analysis of quotes

Two ways to introduce a quote

1. Use a colon

John Proctor prides himself on his honesty in Act 1: "I may speak my heart I think".

2. Make the quote part of your sentence:

John Proctor prides himself on his honesty in Act 1, as we see when he tells Parris "I may speak my heart I think".


DO NOT ever use a comma to separate your point from your quote!

can you do one paragraph on act 1 and the other on act2?

Hi Dan, only just seeing this just now so probably too late! No - it needs to be one or the other because I want to see you analyse his character in either Act in depth. If you only do one paragraph on each Act, you will have quite a shallow essay.

It will all be useful when you come to write your critical essay on the play!
