Representation is how different ideas of people/groups are presented in the text.
People/Groups who are represented in Jaws are: Fishermen American Family’s Stereotypical hero Teenagers Typical house-wife Scottish people are thought to have ginger hair, like haggis and wear kilts. Irish people are though of as drinkers, gamblers and polite people. Fishermen (jaws) talk with an accent, have a tooth pick in their mouth and normally wear scruffy hats. Stereotypical hero’s are mostly male, white, straight, have a family and do well in life (good job). Stereotypical house-wifes are thought to stay at home, clean up and look after the kids while the dad goes out and works. Representations are used to make the audience feel right about what they think (stereotype) and so they can group people into different categories. This makes it easier to show who people are in films are and what they do. Jaws can be thought of as raceist because in America there is a lot of black people but there is no black people in jaws.
