Hi everyone Hope you had a restful break! Sorry to miss you today. I will be off school this week and next. I had another baby, a little boy called Joe, last Tuesday (Obviously I wasn't pregnant and just hiding it well!! Bit of a complex situation that I won't go into!) 3 weeks earlier than planned so didn't get a chance to tell you all I'd be off. Anyway, all well and I'll be back with you on 4th March. In the meantime you'll have cover teachers and should get an English teacher next week. I've left a pack of work on persuasive writing for you to work through. You'll get to see your prelim results before I get back and we'll discuss these in depth when I see you again. Any questions, feel free to post them here. Cheers and see you soon! Ms L

Persuasive essay. So far.
The not so Real Housewives - Robbie Young
The wine guzzling, jewel wearing housewives of Orange county, Atlanta, New Jersey, New york and Beverly Hills exchanging ferious blows on national televison has lead to the faux pas that this kind of behaviour is 'real' and that the women suckling from the salmanazar of reality television which is being engrained in the physci of young people, especially young girls in our society is fundementally wrong and damaging.
The housewives are not entirely resposible for this leaching onto the brains of these merely pubcent young people. Shows such as "the Real World" and "The Hills" were filled with over-dramtic fights and serial intrigue long before the housewives invaded our screens. But unlike books and movies before them, reality television claims to represent real life which makes people believe increasingly more that life should be full of high drama ups and downs which really, unless you live with Ramona Singer, in reality does not exist. In the increasingly celebrity obsessed world we live in, it is hardly suprising that these shows allow people to fantasize about gaining status through automatic fame. Normal everyday people can watch this 'trash TV', see people like themselves and imagine that they also could become celebrities, on television, with millions in the bank. These shows reflect the increased desire for status in todays society.
In a recent survey, it was claimed 67% of viewers watch reality based programmes for the comedic value they exploit. It has the ability to make these 'real' people make complete fools out of themselves on a national platform and somehow it makes us feel good about ourselves. But is it benefiting our society in any way, shape or form? I think not. You would have to be on the same intelligence levels as tese media whores to think it was benefiting us. That inate desire and longing for what we cannot have is why we watch these shows and really "this TV is great... If you're an idiot!" The fane and wealth achieved by reality television is surely an appealing prospect to a world stuck under a economic bus of downturn. We sit and wait for the next Z-lister to make a pornographic expediation so we can crown her the next Kim Kardashian.
The Real Housewices of Orange County starting in 2006 which later emfrachised into Nwew York which grew into Atlanta, and then became New Jersey, Washington D.C and then Beverly Hills chronicle the lives of these money-grabbing, ostentatious, classless, immature, narsisitic, catty and vulgar women. Following the related, friendly or socially aquainted 'ladies into their lives including their everday rituals, careers, and social lives, with a drama around every panormaic glass corner. Being vastly popular with Bravo's target audience of 12-39, becoming fascinated by the over top loves of people called Adrienne, Nene, Camille and dozens of other air heads which pop up now and again whenever the producers wish to boost ratings.
The series and the daughter shows weere a phenomana from the start turning int a bona-fide franchise, franchises even spawning a series of spin-offs, from the spin offs. While watching these shows we leave our everyday lives to live in a pulchidous mansion, gaining the oppurtinty to achieve our dreams and make hundreds of thousadns of dollars in doing so. These matriach's of plastic surgery and bad acting seem to think that selfishness, agression and rudeness are admirable qualities. Helping to encourage selfishness, glorifying wealth and exacerbating in people feelings of heirachy and resentment towards others. These materialstic self proclaimed bitches can earn up to $750,000 dollars per season and surely you see these type of women should not be role models to our impressionable new generation of young girls or they will end up 'media whores' like the rest of them.
Bravo the network behind the housewives was on a 'mission to develop morality plays that covertly teach people (women, men, young and old) how not to behave." Hoping to create a universal code of conduct by shwoing us the bounds of normal. At first we all understood the women in these shows are the anit-heros of modern television. We were in the pwers and they were the point of the sermon. Now after upteen a series we seem to be missing the point. The housewives have become ingrained in our culture. We buy their perfumes, wear their shows, clothes shoes and read their books. Which really are a way of them promoting themselves even further. Their behaviour does not even seem so outlandish anymore, so we join them in their behaviour. Things need to change before this affects our children in the long run. I personally call for the return of a game of kirby or a tree house at the end of the garden rather than allowing our children to be morphed into the next charity chase on a 7 figure sum broadcast to millions of views.

The not so Real Housewives - Robbie Young
The wine guzzling, jewel wearing, porno making housewives of modern television exchanging ferious blows on national televison has lead to the faux pas that this kind of behaviour is 'real'. The women who suck from the salmanazar of reality television are helping this type of viewing to be engrained in the physci of young people, especially young girls in our society. I believe this is fundementally wrong and damaging to the way young girls view themselves but also the world in which they live in. Do we let this sham continue or shall we do something about it before it's too late?

Normal everyday people can watch this 'trash TV', see people like themselves and imagine that they also could become celebrities, on television, with millions in the bank. These shows reflect the increased desire for status in todays society which leads to envy and lack of self worth, being preeched to our children from the moment they learn how to work the remote.

While watching these shows we leave our everyday lives to live in a pulchidous mansion, gaining the oppurtinty to achieve our dreams and make hundreds of thousands of dollars in doing so. These matriach's of plastic surgery and bad acting seem to think that selfishness, agression and rudeness are admirable qualities. These materialstic self proclaimed bitches can earn up to $750,000 dollars per season and surely you see these type of women should not be role models to our impressionable new generation of young girls or they will end up 'media whores' like the rest of them. Now after upteen a series we seem to be missing the point. The housewives have become ingrained in our culture. We buy their perfumes, wear their shows, clothes shoes and read their books. Which really are a way of them promoting themselves even further. Another example of this structured reality shows is The Only Way is Essex, which first boradcast in October 2010 was the first in the long line of American inspired, high drama, low budget, shows to have hit our shores in the last couple of years. TOWIE depicts various cast members dealing with relationships, everday life, weightloss, the search for the perfect body, homosexuality, abortion oh and - fake tan. The shows has the abiltiy to make new words such as 'reem' - recently introduced into the Oxford English dictionary, promote the vajazzle, and make plastic surgery seem normal to the people watching it. Young people are shown the orange skinned, balloon breasted, fish lipped women and believe this is 'normal' or 'real'. The Gaurdian journalist Stuart Heriage claimed that "at heart, The Only Way is Essex is a show about identical-looking people making utterly pointless small talk in precisely the same disinterested monotone for an hour." The shows does not serve a real purpose, it makes serious issues seem unimportant and flippant. But that's okay, at least the fake tan market is booming. Placing people in scripted situasions in order to provoke odd behaviour is really all this show has to offer. Reality TV has transformed the way use as a soicety views life itsself. We as an audience are told if your boobs are too small, get implants. If your nose is too big, get a new one. If you tummy sags, lift it. I cannot stress enough how much I despise TOWIE. If these people are the role models for our women of the future, we are really done in for.
The addictive what-happens-next state these shows put our minds in is taking over our lives. You wish you could turn away but you can’t. Reality television has become the new legal high which has some viewers in addicted without the possiblity of rehabilitation. Young girls have started to talk about the cast of these shows as though they were their close friends, feeling ture emotion for them, following them in every aspect of their lives. It may be time to re-examine why you these girls are watching this TV and determine if viewing this just a way for them to pass the time or a true addiction in which they can't shake off. If you do not care about these shows demoralzing the minds then it will continue to be 'senseless trash that rots our brains." There is no education value in watching these shows. They do not teach us anything, they do not inspire us to be better or more caring people, they merely show fame hungry self publisists, doing them damdest to reach the fame status. Their behaviour does not even seem so outlandish anymore, so we join them in their behaviour. Things need to change before this affects our children in the long run. I personally call for the return of a game of kirby or a tree house at the end of the garden rather than allowing our children to be morphed into the next charity chase on a 7 figure sum broadcast to millions of viewers.
