22nd April 2001
This morning I was rudely interrupted by a pesky, annoying, talking donkey! I was minding my own business in the forest going for a walk, now he won’t leave me alone! This donkey is unbelievably irritating and has given me a headache from all his singing. I like my privacy and spending time by myself but recently with this donkey around I have none. The donkey has invited himself into my home, into my swamp and I do not want him here. He expects to have his own bed and for me to serve him meals, who does he think I am?
I was eating my candlelit dinner for one while the donkey was outside when I was again rudely interrupted but this time by three blind mice, a sleeping girl in a coffin, seven dwarfs and a wolf. I then ventured outside to find a whole settlement of magical fairytale creatures. Do they not realise that this is MY SWAMP?! I soon found out that they had been exiled here under the order of Lord Farquaad. I explained to them that it was my land and they were not welcome and I would take a trip to see this fancy Lord Farquaad and make him remove them from my land. The donkey seemed to be the only creature there who knew where to find Lord Farquaad so I became stuck with him again and that’s where we went.
The journey to Lord Farquaad was a long and painful one. The donkey would NOT shut up after me relentlessly telling him to shut up! He serenaded me the whole way there, much to my discomfort.
We finally got to Duloch and met a village boy with a giant Lord Farquaad head on. As soon as he spotted me and the donkey he ran around screaming before falling to the ground with fear. I found that rather funny if I am honest. Lord Farquaad’s castle was extremely tall and grey. It was quiet and there was no one around. We heard a symphony of trumpets and followed the noise. There was a large gathering of people in stands and knights laying out a games course of some sort. I spotted Lord Farquaad a very short man in red attire standing on a podium explaining he was holding a tournament for knights to win the chance of embarking on a noble quest to retrieve a Princess called Fiona from the highest room in the tallest tower of a castle surrounded by lava that was guarded by a fire breathing dragon. As soon as Lord Farquaad saw me he insulted me by calling me hideous, but in my opinion he isn’t much better looking himself. He then changed the rules of the tournament to be the knight that killed me first was the winner. I of course managed to battle off the entire group of knights, no problem at all. Farquaad decided that since I was the only one left standing I would have to retrieve Princess Fiona in order to get my swamp back with no fairytale creatures in it.
I wasn’t that bothered about the quest so long as I got my swamp back.
