Hello all, Here are the board notes from Friday's Pleasantville marathon! We were using your notes on key scene 1 and your paragraph planner on the opening sequence (question from the 2014 Nat 5 paper) to write a class essay. No conclusion as yet! You could also be asked about: - Theme - social issues like racism and prejudice
- Genre - how is Pleasantville a fantasy film?
- Character - who we feel sympathy with, who we don't, why, a character change etc
- Key scenes or sequences
- Setting (temporal or physical)
And the only way to make sure you are able to answer these questions is to know your stuff - revise your notes on key scenes regularly and be aware of the techniques used and their meanings. Basically, every time you write a paragraph: P Refer to the question and how the director uses the technique, scene or character you're discussion. E Give some evidence from the film - a specific camera shot and what's in it, a quotation of dialogue, a description of the costume or prop etc E Explain the importance of your point and evidence to the question and to the film as a whole.
